Department of Surgery
Lenox Hill Hospital and our Department of Surgery have a solid reputation for providing stellar patient care. Our many esteemed physicians have included pioneers in the use of surgical stapling techniques, the earliest proponents of laparoscopic surgery in New York City, and currently includes leaders in the use of robotic techniques.
Since 2012, we have added 13 new members to the department and have created new divisions in minimally invasive surgery, acute care surgery and hepatobiliary surgery. We've expanded our Department of Plastic Surgery, and our two robot surgery machines are assisting surgeons on a daily basis. Our surgeons are available and operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
We’ve expanded our ambulatory surgical procedures and now perform many at our facilities in Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH), which has been an integral part of Lenox Hill since 2000.
Why choose us?
We’re committed to education. We train future generations of general, vascular and plastic surgeons, in addition to educating physician assistants and medical students. Our residency program in general surgery has been fully accredited and was recently granted approval for expanding the number of residents that we train. Our general and vascular surgery residents are involved in multiple research projects which they publish and present nationally and internationally each year.
Quality remains one of our highest priorities. Each week every Department of Surgery patient encounter within the hospital is reviewed by a committee made up of surgical and nursing leaders with the goal of improving the quality of care that is provided to our patients. Not only does this scrutiny allow us to avoid problems but it educates future surgeons and leaders to do the same in their careers throughout the country.
Our partnership with Northwell Health has expanded our future potential. Our multiple clinical practice facilities allow us exposure in many of the areas in which our patients live, thus bringing the surgeons closer to the communities and referring physicians. Our faculty and resident staff take advantage of our centers for learning and innovation, surgical simulators, and access to research in the world renowned Feinstein Institute for Medical Research.
