Men’s sexual & reproductive health

Our experts at the Smith Institute for Urology at Lenox Hill Hospital treat all sexual and reproductive health conditions affecting men. Half of all couples struggling with conception will have a male factor contributing to the delay in conceiving. Often, we can identify and treat factors affecting the men and help avoid assisted reproductive procedures such as intratuterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Importantly, serious medical conditions, like diabetes, heart disease or testicular cancers, may initially present as a sexual health concern. For this reason, assesing male sexual health can be the gateway to better health. So, when our experts treat erectile dysfunction, infertility, varicoceles and more—we do so with your overall health and well-being in mind.
We offer every treatment available for all men’s sexual and reproductive health conditions. When you come to us for care, we bridge insights from many subspecialties, but you’ll always be seen by a designated men’s sexual health doctor who’s an expert in your unique condition. We take a holistic approach toward treating your condition, so you can leave feeling more confident about your body and health overall.
What sets us apart
Microsurgical expertise
We perform many types of microsurgical procedures to increase the chance of becoming a parent. Microsurgery leads to better reproductive health outcomes, less risk during surgery, and less downtime after the procedure. We routinely perform microsurgical varicocelectomy to improve sperm production and microsurgical reconstruction to bypass blockage of the sperm delivery system. We also perform microsurgical sperm extraction for those who do not have sperm in their ejaculate but have sperm in their testicles.
Partner-focused fertility treatment
Male fertility is only one half of the reproductive process, so we work hand in hand with female fertility specialists to determine the best treatment for prospective parents together.
Our erectile dysfunction expertise
Many male health concerns may originally present as erectile dysfunction. Our team is trained to take a holistic look at all your symptoms, identifying not just the right treatment for your erectile dysfunction, but also the unique cause.
Leadership in infection prevention
Our physicians are international leaders in male sexual and reproductive health, and are fellowship-trained to provide specialized care. With more than 7000 penile implant surgeries performed, the Smith Institute for Urology at Lenox Hill has extensive experience. This leads to high success rates, and low infection rates. Dedicated nurse practitioners, dieticians, cardiologists, endocrinologists, prosthetists, female fertility teams and more all come together to provide you with the highest standard of care.
Expert diagnostics
We do not just treat erectile dysfunction—we find the cause. All of our clinicians are trained to do penile duplex ultrasonography in-office to get the most accurate diagnosis for the cause of erectile dysfunction.
